Perbi Cubs Library Services is a comprehensive digital library solution with over 7000 children currently on the platform and a goal of serving 10,000 by the end of 2022 and 30,000 in 2023. We have children from 243 schools and partnered with seven (7) schools and growing. Perbi Cubs has grown over the months. From 1,000 in March 2020 to about 7,000 subscribing cubs in May 2022. This social enterprise seeks to get children to be literate, articulate, creative, problem solvers and is currently making tremendous impact. A Perbi Cubs experience helps to improve a child’s reading ability leading to success in school and in their future careers. The SDG 4 is focused on quality education for all. Low literacy has widened the gap between developed and developing countries and with a literacy improvement initiative such as this, Perbi Cubs is poised to narrow that gap and help churn deep thinkers who are problem solvers and can join a productive workforce to reshape the economic fortunes of the continent. Indeed research shows that a child who reads is more economically empowered. Perbi Cubs is an evidence-based, cost-effective, literacy-promoting social enterprise that desires to see an enlightened people of African descent who are a product of an enviable culture of leisure reading. Perbi Cubs is a fast-growing digital company that wants to reach 10 million children in Africa over the next 10 years. Perbi Cubs started in May 2018 offering only hard copy books in partnership with schools. In 2020, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and school closures, Perbi Cubs pivoted online and provided an exciting online community with access to thousands of e-books, exciting reading challenges, fun competitions, prizes and more. Perbi Cubs has become an educational technology company offering an exciting, unique and effective way to engage children to love reading and for them to reap the ensuing benefits.
